Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda

This stunning palace dates to 1866 and the famous Silver Pagoda was originally constructed out of wood during the same year. This was then expanded in the early 1960’s by King Sihanouk, by laying over 5,329 solid silver tiles.

The Royal palace gleams in gold where the golden throne can be seen, known and used for coronations. Visit the throne hall, the resting room, the royal guesthouse, and the clothing display which includes copies of clothes worn during the seven days of the week.

Central Market

The Central Market is the perfect place to haggle and purchase your souvenirs, some comfortable pants for sightseeing and beautiful scarves. Built somewhere in the late 1930’s, this market has always been a major attraction to tourists during the last few years. Shaped in the form of a dome, the central market in Phnom Penh also sells popular coins and silver jewellery. Gauge your haggling skills and enjoy a bit of adventure!

Riverside Walkway

Himawari is located by the Riverside Walkway that is pedestrian friendly is ideal for your morning run or a relaxing stroll to take in the city sights. It also serves as a short cut to many restaurants and bars in the area. Enjoy a fresh coconut as you catch the sunset during your evening walks.

National Museum of Cambodia

The largest museum of cultural and historic value, the National Museum of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is home to the world’s finest collection of khmer sculpture and contains pottery and bronzes that date back to the Ankorian periods. The museum’s collection includes over 14,000 items, before, during and after the Khmer empire. Inaugurated in 1920 as the Musee Albert Sarraut, during the French colonial period, the museum’s reopening was initiated by Geroge Groslier, popular historian and author who also served as the museum’s first curator. The Museum buildings, inspired by Khmer temple architecture, were constructed between 1917 and 1924, the museum was officially inaugurated in 1920 and renovated in 1968.

Wat Phnom

The most significant temple in Phnom Penh, Wat Phnom is a historic site that is an integral part of the Khmer national identity. Guests staying at Himawari apartment hotels can visit this popular temple, located within close proximity of the hotel. Built in 1373, standing 27 meters tall, Wat Phnom is known to be the only hill in the area that houses four buddha statues by the waters of Mekong, later discovered by a woman named “Penh”. With many additions and renovations to the original shrines over time, the largest stupa houses the ashes of King Ponhea Yat, and it is the center of city celebrations for the Khmer New Year.

Independence Monument

The Independence monument is in the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, and was built in 1958 as a mark for Cambodia’s independence from France in 1953. An Angkorian style tower, attracts various tourists from all over Cambodia and it is also used as a memorial place dedicated to all Cambodian patriots who sacrificed their lives for the country. This monument takes form of a lotus shaped stupa and was designed by the influential Cambodian modern architect Vann Molyvann. The independence monument is less than a 15-minute walk from the Himawari Hotel Apartments and is just a 5-minute taxi ride away.
